How to Embed YouTube Shorts on Shopify in 2025

Doubling down on video content is a no-brainer as it has exploded in popularity.
Its concise and engaging format perfectly suits the fast-paced online world. However, Shopify's current video embedding functionality presents a unique challenge. While it readily accepts embedded videos from various platforms, it relies on traditional "embed" paths.
Simply copying and pasting a URL or video link from Instagram or YouTube won't work. This limitation can be frustrating, especially with the rising importance of Shorts.
The good news? There's a simple workaround to embed YouTube Shorts on your Shopify store, even though YouTube Shorts doesn't offer a direct embed link in its sharing options, unlike regular YouTube videos.

Here's the step-by-step process to embedding YouTube Shorts on Shopify:
1. Open the Shorts video: Navigate to the YouTube Shorts video in your YouTube account that you want to embed on your Shopify page or blog post.
2. Grab the URL: Copy the URL of the YouTube Short. You can get it by clicking on the 'Share' option on the right hand side of the YouTube Short.
Open Chrome: Open a new tab in Google Chrome. Paste the URL into the address bar but do not hit Enter.
The Magic Edit: Now, here's the key. The URL you pasted will likely look something like this (or similar): https://youtube.com/shorts/AbCdeFG?feature=shared. You need to do one thing with this URL:
- Update the front of the URL from https://youtube.com/shorts/ to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=.
- The URL which did look like: https://youtube.com/shorts/AbCdeFG
- Should now look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbCdeFG
Nb. It is not necessary to remove the '?feature-shared' section of the URL, we did for the purposes of making this guide easier to understand.
Once the URL has been updated: Hit enter and the short should open in a large browser window like a regular width non-short YouTube video. Once the video opens and loads, click on the Share option as highlighted in the image below.
Open the sharing options: Open the sharing options and click on 'embed'. Because YouTube is now treating the shorts video as a regular full length, full width video and not a YouTube Short the video sharing options now provide an embed option. See the image below for reference.
Embed on Shopify: Now that you have the viodeo embed code from YouTube it is a simple matter of embedding it within Shopify's embed feature.
Use the "Insert Video" or "Embed Code" option (depending on your theme) and paste the modified URL.
And that's it! The YouTube Shorts video will now be embedded in your Shopify Store blog post, however it won't be a vertical video, it will still appear as a wide, traditional video.
The Final Word
We hope that Shopify and YouTube find a better native solution on both for embedding YouTube Shorts (and for that matter Instagram Reels) soon, but in the mean time this is the only way we know of to embed YouTube Shorts into Shopify.
